What Happens in the Kitchen...; Food: Part 3

Oh boy. It's been two weeks since I last posted about food. This is a long one..

Let's start again with what the school is feeding us:

One big meatball type of thing soaked in a red sauce. Kind of delicious.

This was sooo good. It was like ground beef with shredded potatoes and cheese on top. Yuum.

Carrot, apple and raisin salad. It tasted like carrots, apples and raisins. Surprised?

Noodles, meat, and cheese.

Unfortunately, they're running out of new stuff to feed us. So we mostly get a lot of the same stuff. Usually it's some form of potatoes, noodles and meat, and then a lot of coleslaw and a tomato/cucumber salad.

Next, we have what we have been finding and buying:

We love going to the grocery store to stock up on essentials and then taking pictures, apparently.

The juice aisle! See why we have so many juice pictures? Speaking of which:

We found these awesome huge jars of juice. The only reason we didn't buy one was because it wouldn't fit in our backpacks. And, frankly, we already look funny enough so we weren't about to carry a jar of juice home.

"African Fruit Mix" juice, and starfruit-apple. Not bad.

Grapefruit and then pineapple juice. The grapefruit was seriously strong and the pineapple tasted like the sugary syrup stuff that's in cans of pineapple. Separately they taste.. interesting, but we found out that together they taste like a more mild version of the grapefruit juice. And then we have pineapple, apple, orange and mango (?) juice. That was gone in one night.

Apple Honey juice and Pomegranate. The apple tasted like apple and the pomegranate tasted like pomegranate.

These are fun things we found. It was cheese, eggs, tomatoes, and ham on bread. We took it home and microwaved it and it was really good.

Baked dough wrapped around cheese. We think?

Peach jam. Not going to lie, it wasn't the best. I'm going to let the kids eat it this week.

We found huuge tortillas! They're kind of salty and seriously good. It cost around 60cents (USD).

These are just about the best chocolate wafers you can buy anywhere. It's filled with a vanilla/butter cream. We have eaten SO many of these since we discovered them. Ohmygosh.

Little packs of cookies! They taste like shortbread cookies and come 5 per pack. Oh and they cost about a nickle.

Candy.. Pineapple, cherry, apple, and grape flavored. But who really eats the grape ones?

We buy a LOT of bread. You can't even begin to imagine.

Sweet pretzels

Sugary snowflake cereal. I had it for a kitchen activity with the kids, but then there were leftovers and we had a sugary breakfast the next morning.

WE FOUND PESTO.

AND WE MADE PESTO SANDWICHES. This is a huge discovery! We have been searching for a long time for any type of pasta sauce and we finally found one! Also, pesto, tomato and mozzarella sandwiches are amazing.

Once again, we bought lettuce with ground still attached to it. This one came with a nifty plastic container though. Do they expect us to take it home and re-plant it?

We found a cute little restaraunt called Mr. Snack and we had a yummy sandwich and some coffee. I have no idea what was in the sandwich.

Ketchup, anyone?

And now, the most exciting part, what we have found in our kitchen at home:

Beet casserole..?

Fish thawing out in a bowl.

Honey comb

Veggies with an interesting tasting sauce on them.

Random lemons..

Our host mom fed us cake one night hahaha

Sunflower seeds! We may have snacked on a few.

Completely clueless to what this is.

Cabbage rolls and cheese just hanging out on the table.

Meat dumplings

Cherry jam inside crispy deliciousness.

Eggs in a bag. In a BAG. How do they not break on the way home? Seriously..

This one wasn't technically found in the kitchen, but in the hallway. It's a bag of dried fish that the kids eat all the time. I'm assuming it's like jerkey, but I'm not going to be the first to try it.

And lastly, random stuff:

This is our fridge

and this is our freezer. We had to pry it open to get this picture. Oh, and do you see that little white plate of stuff near the bottom left? Yeah, you don't want to know what that is.

And just for the record, I'm taller than the fridge.

This is a Ukrainian broom. It's about half the height of a normal broom and you have to hunch over to use it. I love it.

Maybe I should start doing these once a week, this one was a little long.. :)
