We live on the 3rd floor of a 17 floor building and it's a pretty big apartment. Well, we think it is, we haven't even seen all of it yet..
This is the rest of the kitchen (the view from the table). There aren't any overhead cupboards or anything and the walls are completely covered in tile- same with the bathroom. The stove is really small and only two of the burners work. We hand wash all of the dishes and then leave them out to dry in the rack against the wall- which is exactly where we look for them the next time we need them. We asked our host mom for a can opener yesterday and she looked through every drawer and then left the room and came back with this:
Yeah. Figure that out. We took it to school and had our coordinator open the pineapple for me.
Ah, the toilet room. There's not much to say about it.. The toilet paper is stretchy and reminds me of elementary school paper towels. Awesome.
The shower room also houses the washing machine. No dryer..
Yes, the shower/tub. You have to kneel/squat. I've mastered the 13 minute shower. I can get out of bed, grab my stuff, walk to the bathroom, warm up the water, "shower", get re-dressed, walk back to our bedroom, get back in bed (very necessary step at 5am), and tell Audrey it's her turn all in 13 minutes.
Our view from our doorway. The door straight ahead is the shower room, to the left of it is the toilet room and then the kitchen. A few steps out of our door and to the left is the parents bedroom and to the right is towards our front door and to the other wing of the house where the kids have rooms. Oh! I almost forgot to tell you guys- the light switches are on the outside of the bathrooms (and some classrooms). My host mom turned off the light on me this morning.
This is in our room! That's our table covered in junk and the end of my bed which is covered in lesson plans.
This is my bed and my chair/nightstand. You see it right as you walk in the room.
Then at the top of my bed is Audrey's bed and her chair. She's a bit more organized than I am, but you can't really tell in this picture.
At the foot of her bed is our makeshift closet. One of the shelves caved in last night.. Don't worry, totally fixable. (Mom- stop freaking out, we didn't break anything.)
This the other wall, it has this massive thing that we have also stuffed our clothes into. And our sweet tv that doesn't have any English channels.
My frog and Gnorman (silent G) also made the trip.
And my Migros bag is also still intact! For those of you who don't know, Migros is the main grocery store in Switzerland.
This is where our drinking water comes from. We are living like legit Ukrainians. We have to carry our huge empty plastic bottles through the hall, down the elevator, and all the way outside of our apartment building to this gazeebo type thing to pump our own water. Its amazing. The dark area around the 3rd pump is a section of ice that is about 3 inches thick.
Wow!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you use the water you have to carry for? Why is it different then the water that comes out of the faucet?
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!tight quarters it looks like. kindof like having your own apartment.
